Two elderly couples were injured Saturday when the car in which they were riding rolled over several times after it hit a spare tire that had dropped off a tanker truck on the Northway.
Two women - Herta Kahn, 74, and Margot Landsberger, 72, of Teaneck, N.J. - were admitted to Saratoga Hospital. Their husbands were treated and released.
The tire, carried beneath the tanker, dropped when the chain holding it broke, said State Police Trooper Randy Gray. The car carrying the two couples swerved and struck the tire about 2 1/2 miles south of Exit 16 on I-87, Gray said.
